GO OUTDOOR AND GET TO KNOW THE CITY

Life is slowly getting back to normal and we will soon be allowed to step outside – yay! AVOID THE CROWD AND GO FOR A WALK IN THE BACKS

Out in the fresh air with no restrictions on how far you can go or when you need to head back home – what a relief! Yet we need to take extra precaution in these times to prevent spreading the virus. We believe that a refreshing walk through The Backs is the perfect way of getting to know the vivid green landscape and at the same time explore the lovely city of Cambridge. The beautiful architecture and green spaces really provide a sense of peace and tranquility - useful when you’re a student and the workload is getting to you!

But what is exactly meant by “The Backs”? Well that’s simple. It is the name given to the area, which runs along behind the “back” of many of the old colleges. If you have been to our “Welcome to Cambridge” walking tour, you will have seen the impressive gatehouse of some of these colleges. Exploring The Backs will let you see the gardens and buildings at the back of the properties, where students relax, and where you get some wonderful views of the architecture. If you love to walk surrounded by nature we recommend you to download The Backs walking tour. Put on your earphones and listen to the engaging conversation. Our historian Katie will guide you through The Backs while telling interesting stories along the way.

Pro tip - There are a lot of spacious areas in the park where you can picnic on the green grass, far away from others. If you are into sports or any laid-back physical activity - this is also a great spot for Frisbee or cricket! Have fun and stay safe!
